Counselling

Teen years and early adulthood can be a difficult time. It's not uncommon to feel confused, stressed out, anxious or depressed. Having someone to talk to can make all the difference.

Delisle's Counselling Program offers free individual and family counselling and support to youth and their families. All youth between the ages of 13-21* and who live in Toronto are eligible. Our services are tailored to the individual strengths and needs of each youth/family.

Delisle's Counselling Team has a great deal of experience addressing a wide range of issues that affect youth. Our counsellors work collaboratively with youth and/or their families to enhance their understanding of their challenges and to meet their goals.

Here are some of the issues that our counsellors can help with:

  • Mental health issues (for example: depression, anxiety, self-harming tendencies, suicidal thoughts)
  • Family conflict
  • School-related stress
  • Social isolation and peer-related stress
  • Bullying
  • Emotion regulation
  • Trauma (for example: physical, emotional, or sexual abuse)
  • Relationship conflicts
  • Our counsellors are skilled at helping clients develop the tools to access the supports that they need in order to prevent problems from getting bigger down the road.

    This happens by:

    • Identifying basic needs
    • Providing information (psychoeducation)
    • Exploring feelings and emotions
    • Examining life stories and family dynamics
    • Teaching communication skills
    • Developing positive coping strategies
    • Advocating for youth

Our counsellors can also accompany youth to courts and hospitals, connect them with other important resources such as housing, case management or crisis services, and make referrals to other professionals including a psychiatrist.

To access counselling services, youth and their families come in for an intake session and together with a counsellor develop an action plan for treatment. To book an intake, please call (416) 482-0081 and ask for the Counselling Intake Worker.
